If you don’t perform professionally, your audiobook sales will suffer. When you get behind that microphone, you must perform at a level the audience accepts as professional. Even nonfiction narration requires some acting. An audiobook narrator is essentially an actor. If you don’t like being on stage with other performers, you should consider hiring a professional. Would you feel confident performing on stage at your local community theater? If so, you probably have the mentality and skill to narrate your own book.
